SEND MENTAL HEALTH EVENT

The Its Unique Families Mental Health & Wellbeing Event was a vibrant, inclusive community gathering designed to promote emotional wellbeing for children, parents and carers, particularly families navigating the Special Educational Needs (SEN) journey.

What the Event Was About

This event focused on normalising conversations around mental health, providing practical support, and creating positive shared experiences for families. The aim was to combine therapeutic support with fun, interactive activities so that mental wellbeing could be approached in an accessible and stigma-free way.

Rather than a clinical setting, the environment was intentionally energetic and family-friendly — reinforcing the message that mental health care can be empowering, engaging and community-driven.

Who It Was For, The event was created for:

  • Children and young people, with additional needs
  • Parents and carers seeking support and connection
  • Families who benefit from inclusive, safe spaces
  • Community members wanting access to health information and wellbeing resources
  • Health support partners, including NHS-linked services, were present to provide guidance, signposting and reassurance to families who may need professional pathways.

Activities & Experiences, The day blended therapeutic services with entertainment and creativity. Families enjoyed:

  • Bouncy castle and games to encourage physical release and joyful movement
  • Face painting and creative stations supporting self-expression
  • Live DJ entertainment, creating an uplifting atmosphere
  • Parent and child joint activities, strengthening emotional bonds
  • Therapeutic services, including wellbeing treatments and mental health support conversations
  • Health information and community signposting

A Celebration of Creativity & Joy, One of the most powerful aspects of the event was how creativity became a bridge to wellbeing. Children expressed themselves through art and play, while parents engaged in meaningful conversations and restorative moments. The music, colour and energy of the space made it feel like a celebration rather than a support session.

Families were laughing, dancing, painting, bouncing and connecting. Everyone had fun creating — whether through art, shared games or simply creating new friendships within the community. The result was a day filled with smiles, confidence-building and a strengthened sense of belonging.

Impact, The event demonstrated that when mental health support is delivered in a culturally aware, inclusive and family-centred way, engagement increases. Families left feeling:

  • More informed
  • More connected
  • More supported
  • And more hopeful

The Its Unique Families Mental Health Event was not just about services, it was about community, creativity and collective wellbeing.
